Clinical Crown Exposure
In some cases your teeth are covered with too much gum tissue and you have the appearance of shorter teeth and a "gummy" smile. To correct this, Dr. Kent performs a procedure known as crown lengthening. During this surgical treatment, excess gum and bone tissue is reshaped so that more of your tooth is exposed and a more natural look is achieved.
Functional Crown Lengthening
Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure that reshapes the gum tissue and often the bone that surrounds one or more teeth in order to expose an adequate amount of healthy tooth. Very often, this procedure is performed as part of a recommended treatment plan for a tooth that requires a crown. Once completed, functional crown lengthening provides the necessary tooth structure, as well as space between the supporting bone and the crown. The prevents the new crown from damaging the gum tissue and bone.
