There are many reasons why gum tissue recedes, including aggressive tooth brushing or periodontal disease.  One these factors that contribute to recession are under control, a soft tissue grafting procedure is performed to repair the defect and to aid in the prevention of additional recession and bone loss.  Soft tissue grafts can be done to cover exposed root surfaces or to develop gum tissue which is absent due to excessive recession of the gum tissue.
